“Digital Patchwork” @ Model Call Salon

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

My new pieces are now hanging at Model Call Salon, Hillcrest, San Diego. “Digital Patchwork” is the title of the show featuring new work inspired by American folk art, Quilts, and nature. Based on original drawings, the compositions are colored digitally, printed on canvas with archival ink, then framed or mounted on boards. The salon lights up with the infusion of color! J Frizza

Lápices y Píxeles / Pencils & Pixels – The Work of Julio Pompa Frizza @ CAV / Museo del Barro, Asunción, Paraguay

Sunday, June 16th, 2013

I have the honor to be exhibiting at the Centro de Artes Visuales / Museo del Barro, the main contemporary and folkloric art museum in Paraguay. The show, titled Pencils & Pixels –Lápices y Píxeles– is a retrospective view at my digital work from 2003 to 2013. The pieces are drawings colored with the computer and digital collages. The overview includes more than 20 prints on paper or canvas, shown in glass cases, and a slide show projection of about 50 images, in the Florian Paucke room.

The Museo del Barro houses an extraordinary art collection of pre columbian, colonial and indigenous art from Paraguay and Latin America. In addition, the museum focuses on popular and contemporary Paraguayan art. Several rooms are dedicated to contemporary art exhibitions. The gift shop is fantastic, they feature a great selection of local art for sale.

The opening night was a great success, a party with family and friends, enjoying traditional Paraguayan food, an inspiring and unforgettable night in Asunción.

If you happen to be in Paraguay, the heart of South America, stop by the museum, the show will be open until the end of June 2013. J Frizza

Digital Patchwork

Sunday, February 3rd, 2013

I really like the new Illustrator pattern tool. It makes pattern creation so easy and simple. Here are details of a larger piece I created, using several patterns made with that tool. The base of the patterns are original drawings, scanned and traced, combined into a digital patchwork. J Frizza

A New Show Coming Up Soon!

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

A new show is coming up soon! In the mean time, I’m busy finishing several large painted pieces. The show will include oil and acrylic work on canvas, as well as framed digital images printed on paper. The pieces are colorful and organic, fresh and youthful. Teodoro, one of my helpers, takes a brake in front of two canvases, before resuming the hard work! J Frizza

Walking around the neighborhood always gets my creative juices flowing. I’m sharing here a digital scene from University Hights, a neighborhood in San Diego, California. An old Victorian house in the afternoon light. J Frizza

Smoky

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

My friend Peter has a little zoo in his house. He has two dogs, six cats, a parrot, seven turtles, four lizards, and four fish tanks! All the unique creatures are adorable. Here is one of them, a portrait of Smoky, the parrot. A special bird that got lost, and was found after weeks, by a lost-and-found ad on www.craigslist.com … J Frizza
